I wanted a professional headshot...
So using my knowledge and skills, I used red lights in the background to backlight my face. I chose red because 1) it's my favorite color, and 2) Red stands for power, boldness, strength, and courage. Those are all subconscious things people think about when they see red, and I want to be seen as such. Besides the red light, I used a soft key light in the front to keep my face bright and not red.
These photos required the following key skills:
Production:
- Setting up lighting & camera equipment
- Making sure to have the correct camera settings (ex: ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, etc.)
- Creativity in order to come up with different lighting & compositions for the images
- Creating depth in order to have a visually appealing image
- Having good composition and framing for a headshot
Post-Production:
- Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Lightroom
- Color Correcting to create contrast between colors
- Skin Retouching to get rid of acne & blemishes
- Photo Retouching to get rid of distracting elements (Ex: Bag in James' picture & the logo on James' shirt)
- Eye & Teeth Whitening/Brightening
